Chapter 1121: So Much Like Adrian
Chapter 1121: So Much Like Adrian
Why doesn’t he want people to see his face?
The more curious Diana Wood became, the more she thought about it, and before she knew it, she even had the impulse to walk up and rip off Watt Bennet’s mask.
But there were so many people around. If she really did that, Diana felt she’d look exactly like some crazy shrew.
She took several deep, steady breaths and forced the impulse back down.
Standing off to the side, she kept staring at Watt Bennet, sizing him up.
Watt ignored her, just quietly keeping Summer Sutton company while she ate.
He seemed to take special care of Summer, handing her tea, napkins, everything right into her hands.
Whenever there was meat with bones, he would even help her pick the bones out.
Seeing Watt like this, Diana suddenly had the illusion she was looking at Adrian Walyon.
Wasn’t what he was doing now exactly the same as what Adrian used to do?
Very seriously, Diana fixed her gaze on Watt’s eyes again, scrutinizing him.
The more she looked, the more familiar they felt.
How could he look so much like Adrian?
There are a lot of people in the world with similar eyes, Diana knew that.
But maybe it was that mother–son bond; as she kept staring at Watt, her heart suddenly thudded hard a couple of times.
It was like she’d been shocked—she just stared blankly at Watt for a long moment, unable to come back to herself.
Diana couldn’t bring herself to connect Watt and Adrian, simply because back then she had personally gone to Northern Ireland to claim Adrian’s body.
She had seen with her own eyes what he looked like after the accident!
No matter how much this man in front of her resembled Adrian, Diana knew he couldn’t possibly be Adrian.
Her son was already gone.
She had personally attended the funeral too!
Every time she thought of this fact, pain would rise uncontrollably in Diana’s chest.
And yet, despite everything, she still desperately hoped this man might be Adrian.
Even though she knew the odds of that were one in a hundred thousand.
As Diana stared at Watt, her eyes suddenly grew red.
"Ma’am!" Out of nowhere, Summer Sutton’s voice rang out.
Diana lifted her face and looked at her, utterly stunned.
Summer didn’t explain anything, just motioned toward the chair across from her. "If you haven’t eaten, sit down and eat with us."
Her words stunned Diana all over again.
She’d just been cursing Summer out so viciously—Summer wasn’t holding it against her?
In truth, Summer had stopped caring about her long ago; from the very beginning, she’d never cared what Diana thought of her.
Inviting her to sit at the same table now was only because she wanted to give her more time to be around Watt.
When it came down to it, the reason she arranged this was still because Diana was Adrian Walyon’s biological mother.
No matter how much this woman disliked her, the love she had for Adrian was deeper than anyone else’s in this world.
Diana stared at her blankly for quite a while, then sat down woodenly.
Watt picked up the menu and ordered a few dishes for her, and the three of them continued eating together.
From the moment Diana sat down, she never stopped staring at Watt, her eyes reddening as she watched him.
After staring for a long time, she finally squeezed out a sentence, slowly, "How... old are you?"
"Twenty-six," Watt said lightly.
"Twenty-six... twenty-six..." Diana seemed to go blank again, muttering his answer under her breath, feeling hollow inside.
He’s not Adrian.
Their birth years were different...
Watt acted as if she didn’t exist from beginning to end, just calmly picking food onto Summer Sutton’s plate.
Diana stared at him with empty eyes, drowning in a sense of loss she couldn’t even put into words.
Afraid she might lose control of her emotions, she didn’t stay to finish the meal with them.
"I have friends waiting for me!" Before her tears could fall, she ducked her head, muttered an excuse, and left the scene.
