Chapter 1324: Cold-Blooded Black Shark
Chapter 1324: Cold-Blooded Black Shark
In a village within D Country.Black Shark, Mahavi, and over a dozen others had fled here. The group was in a state of complete disarray after a long period of fleeing, utterly exhausted. Except for Black Shark and Mahavi, who could still sustain their stamina, the others were dog-tired.
Inside the house, the mercenaries sat limply on the ground, eating and drinking to replenish their strength.
They devoured their food as if racing against time, fearing even the slightest delay would feel like they hadn’t eaten or drunk anything at all. They chewed their food with big bites, drank water in large gulps, and gasped heavily to restore their strength.
Their heavy breathing and clear sounds of eating and drinking echoed distinctly from their mouths.
Black Shark and Mahavi were the same, also replenishing their energy and adjusting their temporary anxiety and tension through eating and drinking.
The immense pressure from Ye Fan and his group of seven made them acutely aware of how close death was to them.
This pursuit and escape had left Black Shark and his crew utterly drained. Even though Black Shark and Mahavi were still holding up, compared to the mercenaries slumped on the ground, their condition was much better.
Black Shark looked grim, unable to suppress his anger, with a murderous intent that had nowhere to vent.
He knew better than anyone that if Ye Fan and his team caught up, they would surely die. Although he firmly believed in his own formidable strength, after witnessing the prowess of the seven enemies, he realized one stark reality: he was absolutely no match for them.
If they gave everything to escape, there was still a significant chance of getting out alive. But if they stayed or fled too slowly and ended up in front of Ye Fan and his men, they would surely die.
He had previously heard of Peng Bird’s reputation, but it was nothing compared to Black Shark’s renown, not to mention vying with the Poison Dragon Mercenary Corps. Such actions by Peng Bird were simply seeking death.
But after witnessing Peng Bird’s power, he no longer thought so. In his mind, Peng Bird might not be capable of contesting the Poison Dragon Mercenary Corps head-on, but they were more than capable of dealing with him.
Understanding this, Black Shark had to seriously consider matters of life and death, temporarily ignoring all else.
He glanced at the dozen-odd mercenaries left by his side, these people, his personal guards, now looking so ragged and panicked, filled him with discomfort.
"My more than a hundred elite warriors, just died like that, shot down by the enemy’s sniper rifles, it’s really disgraceful," Black Shark said indignantly, "After a bout of confrontation, it completely shattered my men’s morale. They’re only focused on escaping with their lives now. This Peng Bird is truly hateful, actually daring to face off against my Poison Dragon Mercenary Corps, it’s outrageous. When have I ever suffered such great insult and contempt, just focusing on escaping, not even having the courage to confront, it’s particularly infuriating."
No matter how unwilling Black Shark was, all he could do was let out a helpless sigh. What else could he do?
If they could really deal with the enemy, they wouldn’t have ended up in this predicament.
Outside the room where Black Shark and the others were resting and adjusting, villagers of the village were tied up with ropes surrounding the outside of the room. This was why Black Shark and the others felt at ease resting, using these innocent villagers as human shields to protect their own safety.
Once attacked, these innocent villagers would take the bullets for them, ensuring their safety.
These villagers originally from D Country had experienced much bloodshed and cruelty. Unable to resist Black Shark and the others’ actions, they could only stay bound, unwillingly becoming what they are now.
Among the villagers, regardless of age, women or children, their faces were filled with terror and hatred.
Naturally, they loathed their tormentors with gritted teeth, but such hatred was of no use. Any resentment and verbal retaliation would only bring them unnecessary harm. Their weak bodies truly were incapable of resisting these ruthless mercenaries.
Many had tears in their eyes, blood on their bodies, surrounded by quite a few blood-soaked corpses, which were the price of resistance.
Inside the room, Black Shark and the others, having eaten and drunk their fill, had somewhat recovered their strength. The mercenaries then remained on guard all around, taking the house as a stronghold, watching out for any movement outside, ready to counterattack at any sign of wind and grass or enemy attack.
They were truly indifferent to the villagers exposed to gunfire below, treating them like beasts, without any sympathy or compassion, only coldness and disregard.
Black Shark smoked a cigarette, letting the acrid smoke explode in his lungs, unable to dispel the impatience in his heart.
"Sir Black Shark, is it feasible to use the villagers’ bodies as shields?" Mahavi asked perplexed. "If this method is feasible, it could buy us some rest time. But after all, their counterpart is an assassin; Peng Bird is a renowned assassin. Using this method to coerce them, is it really okay?"
In his view, given the disposition of an assassin like Peng Bird, they wouldn’t care for such tricks.
For an assassin, the target is the most important, and everything else can be disregarded.
If Peng Bird really came, they would directly attack, without caring about the villagers’ life or death, honing in on their target, aligning with Mahavi’s ideal perception of Peng Bird’s role.
If Peng Bird really hesitated to attack out of concern for the villagers’ safety, that would be a strange thing, wouldn’t it?
"I’ve heard some rumors about Peng Bird, allegedly, this person doesn’t like to kill the innocent, only those involved in the mission. If anyone dares to use the innocent’s life for coercion or to cause pointless deaths, he makes those within the mission die unbearably," Black Shark recounted a rumor of uncertain truth about Peng Bird.
"We shouldn’t believe hearsay. Whether Peng Bird truly acts this way, we don’t know. But our current situation is indeed dire, there’s no doubt about that," Mahavi replied bitterly.
"What do you think Peng Bird is doing right now?" Black Shark asked with a curious smile.
"How would I know," Mahavi replied helplessly.
"Judging by Peng Bird and their pursuit pace, they should be secretly observing us now, looking for the right moment to strike. That they haven’t attacked swiftly is probably because they’re also restoring their strength," Black Shark said confidently.
"If the enemy recovers their strength, won’t we be doomed?" Mahavi said bitterly. "The enemy’s strength surpasses ours, and we’ve suffered so many casualties. If the enemy recovers, given our current strength, it’s truly worrisome."
