Chapter 148: The Dark Avenger
Chapter 148: The Dark Avenger
"Rai Rai~ It’s timee. Are you readyy?" A hissing Voice sounded near, right in the air as he opened his purple eyes in the darkness.
"I am ready. Let’s go and have our revenge." Raiden checked his gear once again. He was wearing a black camouflage uniform and sunglasses with X gloves on his hands, completely decked in black from top to bottom.
Why sunglasses in the dark, you ask?? Well of course, it was to Aura Farm.
He looked at Neva and Woolie, who were also standing there ready, similarly wearing round sunglasses that matched with his. Raiden even tried to get Ruby, who was coiled around his neck, to wear similar sunglasses as well, but she just gave him a look of disdain and refused.
It was a good thing that both Neva and Woolie were young, and they were wearing matching sunglasses extremely fascinating. So he duped-ahem-convinced them to wear them as well.
"All right!! I already got the location from Isadora. We will hit them before they know what is coming. Dark Avengers, let’s roll!!"
"Woolie!!" ( •̀ ω •́ )!!
"Sha Sha!!" (૭ 。•̀ ᵕ •́。 )૭
Raiden climbed on top of his motorcycle, the engine roaring as he cut through the darkness of the night. His destination?? The biggest underground market.
---------------------------
Raiden arrived at the given address half an hour later, double-checking to see if he had come to the right place.
Because the entrance of the biggest underground market didn’t look like what he thought it did. If anything, it was too shabby.
It was situated in what looked like the middle of the slums, with a house made up of metal sheets put together haphazardly.
And the surrounding area was completely filled with similar-looking houses. If Raiden didn’t have the exact location, he would never have been able to find it on his own.
He opened his phone, looking at the image on it, before matching the similarly marked red wolf on the door, confirming the location. He trusted Isadora wouldn’t deceive him about it.
"Well, it looks like this is it. Are you guys ready?" Raiden asked his partners, who both nodded with serious expressions on their faces.
Ruby made it clear that she wouldn’t interfere in the revenge process unless he faced some kind of mortal peril. It was kind of a training for him.
Raiden checked everything for the last time before putting on his sunglasses and walking into the broken house, Woolie behind him and Neva standing on his head.
He scanned the small house after he walked in, looking for the clues to the secret passage, but he wasn’t able to find it.
"Of course, it’s not obvious. They won’t put it in the open. Let’s look for it, Woolie," he muttered under his breath.
He started looking around the place, knocking on the walls and the floor to find any hollow sounds but he wasn’t able to detect anything.
It looked like he wasn’t cut out for detective work. Just as he was starting to get frustrated, a shout sounded out from behind him.
"Woolie Woo!!" I found it. Human. I can smell the scent of other people from here.
Raiden: ???
’What do you mean, you can smell it?? Are you a dog??’
Despite his inward complaints, he quickly jogged over to where Woolie was standing and found a shelf that had been knocked off the wall and had already fallen onto the ground.
Feeling too lazy to use his hands, he just kicked it really hard, sending it flying.
Bang!!
The sound of the wooden shelf colliding with the metallic wall rang out particularly loud in the silence of the night, causing Raiden to wince as everyone turned to glare at him.
"Ahem, accident, pure accident. Don’t mind it. Look, the path is already clear." Raiden pointed downwards to a set of staircases that revealed themselves after he kicked the wooden shelf away.
"Stopp wasting timee, quickly get it donee. Are you heree for revengee or a comedy routinee??" Ruby voice rang near his ears, making Raiden shiver and turning him serious instantly.
"You are right, Aunt. We’ve got no time. Let’s go. The sooner we can get done with this revenge, the better." Raiden boldly walked down the seemingly never-ending stairs that went deeper and deeper into the ground.
He walked alone through the dark for a while before suddenly the scene in front of him opened up.
A ceiling light came into view as a giant metal gate appeared in front of Raiden. Its huge metal gates extended beyond the normal size, over ten meters tall and wide, blocking the path beyond completely.
And standing in front of the gate were two guards in black suits, wearing complete face masks, each looking like an animal.
As soon as Raiden approached the gate, they pulled out two guns and pointed them at him.
"Halt!! You need to tell us the password if you want to enter beyond this gate." The guard on the right spoke in a cold tone.
"Password??" It was Raiden’s turn to be confused. Nobody told him anything about a password.
"Yes. No password, no entry in the night market." The guard spoke firmly, placing a hand on the trigger of his gun.
"Open Sesame?? Aloha Mora?? Hail Hydra?? The Dark Knight Rises??"
He blurted out a bunch of password guesses, confusing both the guards.
"Sir, if you don’t have the password, we are going to ask you to leave now, or we will take action against you." The left one spoke coldly as he raised his gun directly to Raiden’s head.
"Well, that might be a bit of a problem, mate. I can’t really leave right now. I have something really important to do in the night city. Can you please do me a favour and let me pass?? I’ll get you a treat or something on the way back." Raiden spoke in a merry tone, showing no fear, making both the guards tense up.
"This is the last warning. Tell us the password or leave right now in the next 3 seconds!! If you don’t, we will shoot."
The muzzles of their gun started flashing red as they aimed it directly at Raiden’s body.
"Shame, it’s such a shame. I wanted to sneak it in, you know. Woolie, do it."
"Woolie!!"
Even before Raiden finished his whole words, both guards pulled their triggers directly, shooting at him.
Unfortunately for them, Raiden, who had already survived staying in the jungle for so long, already had ultra instincts. He anticipated the attack even before it happened, ducking under it.
FLASH-BANG!!
In the next second, both of the guards were hit by a gray-colored blur, breaking their bones instantly and sending them flying, passing out before they even hit the ground.
"Let’s go, Woolie. I am not sure if this would have alerted them to our presence." Raiden’s voice betrayed no sense of urgency he was feeling as he kicked the metal door open, finally walking into the biggest underground network, the Night Market.
At first glance, the market looked chaotic, with hundreds of people moving around. Each of them had a mask donned on their face of different animals, which they used to hide their identities.
He supposed that he would have gotten one of those masks to protect his identity as well if he had known the password.
But it was already too late now as his forceful opening of the door attracted the attention of everyone in the night market, who turned to stare at him with different emotions on their faces.
After staying so long in the jungle, Raiden awakened a sense where he could sense what kind of emotion the other person was feeling, making it easy for him to spot the bad ones.
And in this place, he felt nothing but malice. Looking at the people who were surrounding him, he felt emotions such as fright, jealousy, greed, fear, amusement, and murderous intent.
He was sure none of the people surrounding him were the good guys.
"Yo, everyone. I am looking for the Ingram family’s hideout. Is there any good Samaritan who can point out the way to their base? I’ll pay them well for their endeavour."
As soon as he finished speaking, there was a deep silence around Raiden, with everyone turning their head away or even just directly running away as soon as he spoke the question
Seeing their frightened expression, Raiden guessed a few things in his heart.
But not wanting to waste any time, he grabbed the nearest person with the strongest murderer intent, turned towards him and stared directly into his eyes as he questioned.
"Feeling pretty murderous, aren’t ya? Coincidentally so am I." Under Raiden’s grin, three sharp claws extended from his hands in front of the man’s face, who didn’t even realise what had happened.
Next, Raiden put his hand under his chin as he grabbed the man’s collar with one hand while staring him into the eyes.
"Tell me where the base head of the Ingram family is right now, or I’ll skewer your brain. I’ll be counting to 3. Okay?? One. Two—"
"I’ll talk, I’ll talk. Just don’t kill me, okay?" The man couldn’t even hold out for two seconds. Leaving Raiden with a disappointed expression on his face. He hoped that the man would resist for a minute longer.
"The Ingram family head office, right? You just need to go straight to the back. It’s the biggest building in here, there, and the night market. You can’t miss it. Please just let me go." The man spoke in a frightened voice.
He was just a small-time lackey, and he had no loyalty to the boss of the market. Such a thing didn’t exist in the Night Market, just a rule of fear and oppression.
"Middle of the camp. huh?? Thanks, man. Ingram family, I’ll be coming for you."
SQUELCH!
Raiden casually killed the person in his hands before moving towards the centre, his eyes shining with vengeance.
