Chapter 116 Double Happiness
Chapter 116 Double Happiness
Lin Weiwei's eyes lit up instantly, and she quickly turned around: "You're down? Where are you, Officer Wu?"
"It's posted right outside the publicity department!" Officer Wu was a little out of breath, but a smile played on his lips. "I just checked, and you meet all the requirements! The department head told me to come and tell you to fill out the application form!"
"Really!" Lin Weiwei was so happy she almost jumped for joy, grabbing Su Wanwan's arm and shaking it vigorously. "Wanwan! It's working!"
Su Wanwan was happy for her too: "Go quickly!"
"Come on, let's go together!" Lin Weiwei grabbed Su Wanwan and followed Officer Wu towards the propaganda department.
The propaganda department was located on the first floor of the battalion headquarters office building. Sure enough, a few people were gathered at the entrance, looking up at the newly posted recruitment notice on the wall.
The notice, written in black ink on red paper, advertised for a publicity officer position, requiring political integrity, a certain level of education, and expertise in drawing and writing. Age and gender were not limited.
Officer Wu pushed through the crowd, took out a registration form from inside the building, and handed over a pen: "Comrade Lin, fill this out here, and I'll take it inside when you're done."
Lin Weiwei took the watch, found a windowsill to lean on, and began to write stroke by stroke.
When writing her name, age, family background, education level, special skills, etc., she thought for a moment and wrote down her works or achievements, such as painting murals in Shazao Village and painting blackboards at the entrance of the military camp.
Su Wanwan watched from the side and whispered a reminder: "Weiwei, write your words neater."
"I know," Lin Weiwei replied, writing even more diligently.
After filling out the form, Officer Wu took it, glanced at it, and nodded: "Okay, wait here, I'll take it inside to the section chief. The section chief said that everyone who signs up needs to have a brief interview."
Lin Weiwei took a deep breath and slowly exhaled, her heart pounding.
A few minutes later, Officer Wu came out and waved to her: "Comrade Lin, come in, the section chief wants to have a chat with you."
Lin Weiwei tidied her hair and clothes, and followed Officer Wu into the office.
The propaganda department was small, with a few old desks pushed together, and various propaganda posters and slogans pasted on the walls.
Behind the desk sat a middle-aged man in his forties, the section chief who had visited Shazao Village last time.
He was wearing glasses and holding the registration form that Lin Weiwei had just filled out.
"Section Chief, this is Comrade Lin Weiwei," Officer Wu introduced.
Lin Weiwei stood up straight and greeted, "Hello, Section Chief."
The section chief looked up, glanced at her, his face expressionless, and simply nodded: "Sit."
Lin Weiwei sat down in the chair opposite the desk, her hands on her knees, her back ramrod straight.
The section chief adjusted his glasses and looked at the application form: "Did you paint the murals in Shazao Village?"
"I drew it," Lin Weiwei replied.
"Did you also draw the blackboard bulletin board in front of the barracks?"
"Yes, Officer Wu asked me for help, so I drew it."
The section chief put down his watch and looked at her: "It's a good drawing. The public response has been very positive; they say they understand it and enjoy it. Our propaganda work should be popular with the masses; just shouting slogans won't do."
Lin Weiwei felt a little more at ease and quickly said, "I just wanted to draw things that happen around us, so that we can feel close to them."
"Hmm, that's the right line of thinking." The section chief then asked, "Your education level is high school?"
"Yes, I studied until the second year of high school, but then something happened at home, so I didn't continue," Lin Weiwei said vaguely.
In the original owner's memories, she did indeed study until the second year of high school, but stopped going to school due to family reasons.
The section chief didn't ask further, but instead said, "The work of the propaganda section isn't just about drawing. It involves writing slogans, producing briefings, and sometimes even writing materials to support political studies. It's very varied and tiring. Can you handle the hardship?"
"Yes!" Lin Weiwei answered readily, "I'm not afraid of being tired."
The section chief nodded and asked a few more questions, such as his understanding of the current situation and his comprehension of the relationship between the military and civilians.
Lin Weiwei spoke in a proper and honest manner, based on her usual observations and the original owner's memories.
After asking enough questions, the section chief put the application form aside, his expression softening slightly: "Okay, I understand your situation. Go back and wait for our notification. The results should be out by the day after tomorrow at the latest."
Lin Weiwei stood up: "Thank you, Section Chief."
Stepping out of the office, Lin Weiwei felt a little unsteady on her feet. Officer Wu followed her out and whispered, "I think the section chief is quite satisfied with you. Just wait and see, there's hope!"
Lin Weiwei thanked them, then pulled Su Wanwan, who was waiting outside, and walked out of the office building.
As soon as they left the camp area, Lin Weiwei couldn't hold back any longer. She hugged Su Wanwan tightly and chuckled in a low voice, "Wanwan! I feel like there's a chance! She kept nodding when the section chief asked me questions!"
Su Wanwan was also happy for her: "You'll definitely succeed! You draw so well, the section chief took a liking to you when he went to the village last time."
"Let's go home!" Lin Weiwei pulled Su Wanwan's hand, her steps light as if she could fly. "So many good things happened today, we have to celebrate! Let's go buy meat and eggs, and cook a big meal! Let's invite Commander Bai and Bai Si'an over for a good feast!"
The two walked happily toward the restaurant, discussing what dishes to cook for dinner.
Lin Weiwei counted on her fingers: "Braised pork is a must! We also need to stew some fish, scramble some eggs, make some cabbage and tofu... Oh, should we make dumplings?"
"Dumplings take too much time to make, a few stir-fried dishes are fine," Su Wanwan said.
"That's right, let's stir-fry some vegetables then!" Lin Weiwei said, her eyebrows dancing with excitement.
The sun shone on the Gobi Desert, making the ground scorching hot, but both of them felt warm inside.
On the other hand, Wang Xiuying and Gu Lin were not in such a good mood.
After the meeting, Wang Xiuying lowered her head and left the auditorium almost as if she were fleeing.
Gu Lin followed behind her, her face ashen.
The two returned to the family compound one after the other and went into Wang Xiuying's home.
As soon as the door closed, Gu Lin couldn't hold back anymore.
"Wang Xiuying!" Her voice was low but filled with anger. "Why did you wait those ten minutes! If you hadn't insisted on waiting, we would have taken the child out long ago. How could we have been caught by the spies? I wouldn't have gotten hurt!"
Wang Xiuying's back injury was still throbbing. She sat on the edge of the bed, head down, and said, "I... I was thinking that if the situation became more chaotic, our contribution would seem greater... Who knew it would be such a coincidence that the spies arrived..."
"Coincidence?" Gu Lin's chest heaved with anger. "What coincidence! I think you're just stupid! You thought you were so clever! Now look what happened, you got a demerit and have to give a public apology! I've lost all face too! My dad called me in yesterday and scolded me for a whole hour!"
Wang Xiuying bit her lip and remained silent.
She knew she was in the wrong this time.
Gu Lin paced back and forth in the room, growing angrier with each passing thought: "And then there's the matter with the publicity department! My dad had already spoken to the department head, and if I applied for this recruitment, I was basically guaranteed a job. But now? With this incident, what will the department head think of me? He thinks I have character flaws!"
