Chapter 60 Preparations
Chapter 60 Preparations
After slacking off for two days in a row, Li Yuan has finally fully integrated into the daily routine of the production department.
The workplace bullying or being bossed around that Li Yuan had imagined never happened, making him wonder if he had joined a Korean company.
In his impression, South Korean workplaces are hierarchical, and it is common for newcomers to be bossed around. A senior's word can make a junior run around like crazy.
But he stayed there for two days, and apart from occasionally asking his colleagues a few questions, he didn't even have anyone to tell him what to do.
"Is it just because Li Zhiying took me to the department office?" Li Yuan wondered, somewhat Versailles-like.
From the moment Lee Ji-young led him into the office, the atmosphere in the entire production department became subtle.
Unbeknownst to him, after he left the office, Li Zhiying specifically reminded the others: Li Yuan was sent from above, not an ordinary intern, so everyone should be careful.
Lee Ji-young knew all too well how things worked in South Korea. If she didn't speak up, who knew how Lee Won would be treated?
If he gets angry again, it will be another troublesome matter.
There aren't many producers in the second-tier production department to begin with, so let's avoid any further turmoil.
"Li Yuan, Minister Li needs your assistance." A veteran producer approached Li Yuan's workstation and gave a slight bow.
"Oh." Li Yuan carefully put away what he was writing, got up, and pushed his chair back under the table. "Thank you, Teacher Cui."
"Of course, of course." The producer seemed quite pleased, and the wrinkles on his face smoothed out.
Having worked in the production department for so many years, he had seen many parachuted-in employees with connections—some arrogant, some disdainful of others, and some who knew nothing yet liked to give orders haphazardly. Someone like Li Yuan, who possessed genuine talent yet maintained a humble attitude, was truly rare.
After spending the last two days together, Li Yuan's colleagues found that he had none of the arrogance often associated with newly recruited talent. He was very approachable, always willing to help, and highly skilled in production.
He solved a producer's problem yesterday.
They now all think that Li Yuan might not be the "big shot" assigned from above, but rather a relative of Li Zhiying.
After all, they all share the same surname, Lee. This kind of "family business" operation is all too common in South Korea.
However, they didn't have any objections, after all, he was genuinely talented and kind to people, much better than those arrogant paratroopers.
Arriving at Li Zhiying's office, Li Yuan knocked on the door and went inside.
"You called me?" Li Yuan moved a chair to the desk and sat down.
"You're getting bolder and bolder now, you don't even call me 'Minister' anymore." Lee Ji-young rolled her eyes at him, her tone not stern, clearly joking.
"Minister Li, is there any work to do?" Li Yuan fiddled with the ornaments on the table.
"Can't I call you if I don't have work?" Lee Ji-young looked up at him. "Have you been having a good time slacking off these past few days?"
She pulled a document from the table and handed it to her: "They're urging you to resolve ITZY's dance issues. It's been so many days, it's about time."
I've only been at the company for two days, so it's time to start working officially.
"What do you mean slacking off? I'm working very hard, okay?" Li Yuan took the folder. "I even added two songs to the music library."
With nothing else to do in the office, Lee Won wrote two songs and added them to JYP's music library. One was called "Be As ONE," a Korean version, and the other was called "TWICE Song," a two-minute timeless classic.
"Anyway, go and get ready." Lee Ji-young waved her hand.
"I've been ready for a long time, just waiting..." Li Yuan stood up and knocked the ornaments on his desk to pieces. He frantically tried to put them back together.
"It's good that you're prepared. Just talk to the dance team." Lee Ji-young looked at Lee Won's increasingly messy desk and her lips twitched. "Stop messing it up. I'll have someone tidy it up later."
"Actually, I can fix it." Li Yuan awkwardly gathered the pile of parts together, trying to arrange them neatly. "Okay, I'm leaving."
He could already see Lee Ji-young's face getting increasingly red.
Li Yuan tactfully turned around, quickly walked out of the office, and closed the door behind him.
After Li Yuan left, Li Zhiying hurriedly swept the pile of things into the drawer and then rearranged the things on the table.
After doing all this, she breathed a sigh of relief and nodded in satisfaction at the neat and symmetrical tabletop.
"Still an obsessive-compulsive disorder?" Li Yuan muttered as he entered the dance group's room.
There were the sounds of orderly footsteps and Park Jin-young's voice inside.
"Is anyone using this?" Li Yuan raised his hand and knocked on the door.
If someone is using it, they probably wouldn't mind sharing a few choreographers with them, right?
At this moment, it seems that only... are currently at the second campus and preparing to return.
Footsteps were heard, and the door was opened from the inside.
The person who opened the door was someone Li Yuan recognized—Kim Yugyeom.
It really is GOT7.
When he saw Li Yuan, he was taken aback for a moment, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes, before he bowed slightly and said, "Director Li."
Why does this sound so strange? Li Yuan thought to himself, listening to this somewhat awkward form of address.
"Hyung, want to practice?" GOT7 and Lee Won had crossed paths before, mainly because Jackson Wang in the group is Chinese and is even in a green card group.
"Yes, I'll be back soon." Kim Yugyeom's face lit up with joy at the way Lee Won addressed him, but his tone remained unchanged.
They all initially thought Li Yuan was a trainee at the company, but he turned out to be a director, so their attitude towards Li Yuan became quite complicated.
They're not exactly close, but there's a layer of social status between them; yet they're not exactly distant either, because they've indeed eaten together, chatted, and even worked together before.
Lee Won walked into the practice room and found that all the GOT7 members were there, with Park Jin-young standing there, presumably "supervising".
"Why are you here?" Park Jin-young was very surprised to see Lee Won.
Li Yuan has never been interested in boy bands. It took many attempts to persuade him to write a song for Day6.
"Why do you think it's not for me..." Li Yuan paused, "It's about the new group's dance."
"Oh." Park Jin-young then realized why Lee Won had come, and the surprise on her face turned into realization. "You've come to the wrong place. The women's group is next door."
"Then I'm leaving." Li Yuan waved his hand.
"I'll go with you." Park Jin-young handed the folder in his hand to his assistant next to him, gave a few instructions to the people in the room, and then quickly chased after them.
"What's wrong?" Lee Won slowed down as he watched Park Jin-young run over.
There shouldn't be anything for the company to worry about right now, right?
"Regarding ITZY," Park Jin-young hesitated for a moment before finally saying, "Now that they've just debuted, which member do you think we should focus on first?"
Park Jin-young didn't really want to ask Lee Won about this. Because of his relationship with Hwang Ye-ji—the two lived together, ate breakfast together every day, and went out together; their closeness was obvious even to a blind person.
Asking this question felt like handing an answer to Li Yuan.
But he felt uneasy if he didn't ask Li Yuan, since Li Yuan had handled the entire ITZY project from start to finish, from the group concept to the debut song, from member selection to the choreography framework. No one knew better than him how the group should proceed.
"Center of gravity?" Li Yuan was taken aback.
"It's about resources, publicity, and things like that," Park Jin-young explained.
"The company also does publicity?" Li Yuan raised an eyebrow.
"You..." Park Jin-young sighed after being dissed by Lee Won, then said irritably, "Hasn't the company already started working on this?"
"A publicity department has been established."
Li Yuan had nagged about this countless times.
"It must be..."
"Why?" Park Jin-young was taken aback by Lee Won's answer.
