Chapter 39 No Reason
Chapter 39 No Reason
The premiere of the TV series was a great success. The pre-broadcast promotion was very effective, and since it was adapted from a comic, it garnered a group of fans even before its official premiere. The first-day ratings for the TV series can be said to have set a remarkable record right from the start.
The success of the premiere improved Hwang In-rae's mood considerably, and he stopped worrying about Kang Woo-jin returning to New York. However, he still had to come back before the planned filming date.
Only half a month had passed between these events. Considering the domestic format of filming while broadcasting, Huang Renlei was already quite relaxed.
Before returning to New York, Kang Woo-jin had one more day. He spent the entire day at Kang Jung-seo's company, choosing an office with a view across the street. He drank coffee, revised the script, and glanced at the entrance of SM Entertainment.
It was a pity that he didn't see the girl appear, but he didn't feel sorry. He had heard before that SM Entertainment was planning to launch a new girl group, and Kang Jung-seo's reminder that day was not a lie.
So at times like this, he wouldn't bother the girl too much, just thinking that meeting her once would be fine.
When the time came, Jiang Youzhen packed his luggage and boarded a flight back to New York. He traveled discreetly, and not many people recognized him on the way. Before takeoff, he received various text messages and phone calls urging him to hurry up.
After returning to New York, he won't be able to stay idle for a while.
The domestic situation was still peaceful. In addition to writing new scripts, Jiang Jingshu also had to go to the film crew to check on the filming progress. Whenever she had free time, she stayed in the office to deal with work-related matters.
When Kang Woo-jin usually came to visit her, he would buy her a drink and some dessert. Now that Kang Woo-jin had gone back to New York, she decided to take advantage of her lunch break to buy some for herself.
Jiang Jingshu remembered what Jiang Youzhen had told her before, and casually asked the shop assistant, "By the way... how often do people from SM Entertainment across the street come here?"
"SM? Lots of them. People come every day, but most are managers. Trainees have come too, but not often," the cashier nodded in response. Seeing Jiang Jingshu's curious look, she smiled and asked, "Writer-nim, do you also like SM artists?"
"Well... it's hard to say. What I care about more is not celebrities," Jiang Jingshu slowly shook her head. She noticed a few more people coming in from outside the door. Not wanting to deal with strangers, she took the receipt and turned to walk towards a corner.
The people who came in to buy coffee were from SM Entertainment. They looked like managers, and they were in a hurry, each carrying several cups of coffee and running very fast.
However, it was the few girls who came in later that caught Jiang Jingshu's attention. Her gaze swept across each of their faces, and finally she recognized Kim Tae-yeon at the back of the crowd.
What a coincidence! I can't believe we ran into each other.
She didn't know if Kang Woo-jin had met Kim Tae-yeon, but in reality, when she saw her in person, Kang Jung-seo maintained an appreciative attitude. She had also looked at the information, and the trainee's performance was excellent, with superb singing skills. In a big company like SM, Kim Tae-yeon was able to occupy the top position in terms of singing skills among trainees, so it was clear that she would debut soon.
It's a pity, being an idol is very tiring.
Kim Tae-yeon was unaware that a pair of eyes were observing her inside the coffee shop.
Because of its proximity, this cafe is frequented by artists and trainees from SM Entertainment.
However, she's been busy these past two days, so she hasn't come.
It happened to be lunch break, and she wanted to buy a drink to take home. She was actually a little curious because Jiang Youzhen had mentioned that his mother's company was located upstairs.
Seemingly thinking of Jiang Youzhen, she remembered that he had returned to New York today.
I sent him a text message, but I haven't received a reply yet. He must be on the plane.
"Huh? I didn't see any Hollywood veterans today. I was just thinking that the TV series is really good, and I was even thinking of asking them if they could give me some spoilers."
Yoona glanced around the coffee shop, then lowered her voice and said, "I heard from the Super Junior oppas that they saw a Hollywood veteran when they came to buy coffee yesterday, and they wanted to say hello, but..."
"But what? Could it be that we were ignored by the Hollywood veterans?" Choi Soo-young's lips curled up, and she joked, "They wouldn't be like us, calling everyone a Hollywood veteran all the time, would they?"
"No way, but we did greet them. However, they said the Hollywood veterans were looking at them strangely, like... they were pitying them."
Just as Lin Yoona finished speaking, a coughing sound came from the side.
The group turned to look and saw Kim Tae-yeon waving her hand and coughing. After finally catching her breath, she had that indescribable expression on her face again.
Kim Tae-yeon seems to understand why Kang Woo-jin reacted that way.
"Not getting enough to eat," "Not growing tall," "Does your company not provide food?" "Too thin."
She remembered clearly what Kang Woo-jin had said about the company in front of her, but she never expected that he would react the same way when he met a member of Super Junior.
"I'm fine, I just choked on some saliva."
Ignoring their strange looks, Kim Tae-yeon patted her cheeks, which were flushed from coughing. Her gaze quickly swept across the coffee shop, and when she noticed a very elegant woman sitting in a corner by the window, she couldn't help but take a few more glances.
Within seconds, Yoona and the others blocked her view. They quickly ordered coffee and drinks. After Kim Tae-yeon received her drink, she wanted to take another look at the person by the window, but found that the person had already left with their bag.
She guessed it was a senior figure in the industry who had been in business for a long time, so she didn't pay much attention. After politely saying goodbye to the staff, she quickly left the coffee shop.
A few days later, when they passed by the store again, they didn't see Kang Woo-jin. It was only after the most gossipy people asked Kim Tae-yeon that they found out what had happened.
Kang Woo-jin has returned to New York.
"New York? Ah...right, he's an international student." Tiffany belatedly realized that she had seen Spider-Man before, and now that she had watched the TV series, she subconsciously thought that Kang Woo-jin was an actor.
Who would have remembered that he was actually a college student?
They filmed a TV series while on vacation; that's really enviable.
"Taeyeon, do you think if we got the autographs of Hollywood veterans, wouldn't they be worth a lot of money if we sold them later?"
A casual joke from a good friend made Kim Tae-yeon a little embarrassed. She waved her hand and smiled awkwardly, without answering the question.
Selling autographs? I can't believe she even came up with that.
They didn't even buy coffee or drinks today. Since practice was over, they headed back to their dorm.
Recalling what Tiffany had said, Kim Tae-yeon took out her phone and opened her contacts. The name "Anders" was still in the list. She had the number for a long time, but after Kang Woo-jin went abroad, she stopped contacting him because she thought he would be busy and there was a time difference.
There were messages from Kang Woo-jin on the SMS interface, but they were from several days ago.
She casually asked Tiffany what time it was in New York, and upon hearing the answer, she reopened the text messaging interface, intending to send a message to Kang Woo-jin.
Seeing her actions, Tiffany chuckled and teased, "Our Taeyeon, she can't hold it in anymore?"
"What can't you hold it in?" Kim Tae-yeon was still typing and didn't catch the tone of her friend's words.
"What else could it be? A Hollywood veteran, huh? I haven't seen you contact him these past few days. Why did you suddenly think of contacting him today?"
"...It's nothing, I've just been busy with practice, and I finished early today, so I thought I'd ask."
Kim Tae-yeon slowed down her typing speed. She absentmindedly replied to Tiffany's words, her voice softening. In a daze, she clicked the send button.
There was no real reason; she just wanted to know how Jiang Youzhen was doing after returning to New York, and when he would be coming back next time.
