Chapter 26 Attack in the Deep Forest
Chapter 26 Attack in the Deep Forest
Otto keenly sensed something amiss and immediately asked Tina for details.
Fortunately, Tina didn't hide anything and quickly explained.
"The Order of Light can provide a special service: the Soul Lamp."
By simply dripping a drop of blood into the Soul Lamp, one can discern the safety of the blood's owner.
The soul lamp containing my brother's blood is kept at home.
After the Soul Lamp malfunctioned, my father immediately notified me, who was training in Silverfrost City.
To be honest, I just arrived here myself and don't know much about the Flower Fairy Wings.
Tina felt increasingly anxious.
Time was ticking away, but they couldn't even catch a glimpse of the Flower Fairy Wings.
"I don't even know why they were in danger!"
Tina gripped the hunting bow tightly in her hand, her knuckles even turning white from the force.
Otto could tell that she was genuinely worried about her younger brother.
Just as Otto was about to comfort his temporary teammate, Micah spoke up.
"Before I left the Adventurers' Guild, I received a letter from Phyllis."
It contained some strange records.
Micah handed the letter to the two people beside him for inspection while explaining its origin.
"The member of the Flower Fairy Wings who escaped back was unconscious, but he kept muttering something."
As Micah spoke, Otto also saw what was written on the paper.
"The shadow has come to life!"
"They're eating my flesh!"
"They're all starving!"
The obscure and difficult-to-understand language left Otto and Tina unsure of what to say.
It can only be preliminarily determined that they have been attacked in some kind of way.
"Are there such monsters in the Blackthorn Forest?"
Tina didn't know anything about the Blackthorn Forest, so she had to ask Micah, who was standing next to her.
But Micah couldn't figure out what had happened to them either.
"The Blackthorn Forest is very large, and it contains small monsters such as the common Dust Moss Rat and Echinoderm."
There are also highly aggressive monsters such as swamp crocodiles and howling forest wolves.
Countless goblins have even made their home in the misty depths of the Blackthorn Forest.
Without a detailed on-site investigation, it's difficult to determine exactly what attacked them.
Micah spoke his mind; he didn't want his employer to have any unrealistic fantasies about the Blackthorn Forest.
With that in mind, Micah continued.
"Let's rely on our tracking skills to find the location where they're gathering Moonflowers."
Those plants are more noticeable at night, so they should be easy to find.
As Micah spoke, he quickened his pace.
Perhaps because of Micah's somewhat cold remarks, the three of them barely spoke to each other afterward.
Time flew by, and soon it was dusk.
The three finally arrived at the entrance trail of the Blackthorn Forest, near Oak Town.
The scene before him was far more terrifying than the rumors Otto had heard.
The thick, pale fog, like a soaked shroud, completely obscured everything in Otto's view.
The faint light of dusk couldn't penetrate even a fraction of the forest.
Those twisted black thorn trees stretched out towards the sky like some kind of eerie creature roaring at the heavens, venting its resentment!
Otto simply followed behind Micah, proceeding cautiously while invoking Felicity's name in his heart and lighting the Lamp Spirit Eye.
As for Micah, he had already drawn his giant axe, ready to fight at any moment.
As the group ventured deeper, the blackthorn trees around them became increasingly sparse.
Seeing this, Micah simply introduced the environment of the Blackthorn Forest to Otto.
"The outer area is shrouded in thick fog, and the vegetation is denser. However, as you approach the inner area, the fog and vegetation become increasingly sparse."
To be honest, Micah didn't know why either, but Blackthorn Forest was a popular area for adventurers, and it was always right to teach the younger generation the rules he knew.
But just as Micah was about to say something more, an untimely crimson mist suddenly appeared before Otto's eyes.
Upon seeing this, Otto abruptly stopped.
His right hand gripped the sword hilt tightly as he stared intently at the crimson mist before him.
Otto knew this meant misfortune and danger, and he had to be careful!
But at that moment, a bizarre scene unfolded.
As that crimson mist drew closer, more crimson mist appeared!
"Something is rapidly approaching; there are seventeen of them!"
Although Otto did not know the true identities of the attackers, he could still ascertain their numbers.
He immediately warned his companions, hoping they would be on guard as much as possible.
Almost simultaneously, the instant Otto spoke, Micah turned around and formed a simple defensive circle with Tina and Otto.
At that moment, Micah held the giant axe horizontally in his hand and began to issue commands in a rough, hoarse voice.
"Tina, find a high vantage point. Otto, report the positions. I'll handle the front!"
After saying that, Micah immediately stared intently at the thick fog in front of him.
But instead of being nervous, he revealed a sinister smile on his face.
"After resting for so many days, it's finally time for some interesting work!"
With Micah's command, Tina lightly touched the ground with her toes, flipped over and leaped onto a half-person-high cliff, instantly drawing her hunting bow to its full draw, the arrow pointing straight into the depths of the mist!
It was at this moment that the attackers on the other side seemed to have noticed their movements and reacted immediately.
A series of sharp, mournful wolf howls suddenly rang out!
Micah immediately warned the two of them.
"It's the Fog Howling Forest Wolf."
Their howls contained shadow energy that could directly impact the mind.
This level of howling is just a distraction. Hang in there, focus your mind, and take them down!
Micah, with his extensive combat experience, quickly realized what was happening.
As for Tina, although it was her first time encountering the Howling Forest Wolves, she possessed an impressive extraordinary skill set, so she was able to handle it.
But to Tina's surprise, not only did Micah, the dwarf, bear it without batting an eye, but Otto, an ordinary man, also endured it without changing his expression.
But just then, two Howling Forest Wolves, under the cover of their companion, quietly approached.
Otto, of course, did not let them off the hook and immediately warned Micah, who was closest to them.
"Seven steps to the left rear!"
As soon as Otto gave the location, Micah roared and his massive dwarf figure swept past like an iron tower!
The giant axe swept out with a whooshing sound.
The crackling sound of the axe blade slicing through the thick fog even drowned out the wolf's howl!
Before the two Mist Howling Forest Wolves could even let out a scream, they were smashed in two by the giant axe.
The foul-smelling black blood splattered all over the ground, but Micah didn't care at all. He simply quickly regrouped his troops, keeping a watchful eye on any attacks that might follow.
The blood of their prey seemed to ignite the dwarves' fighting spirit.
He raised his battle axe high and roared into the distance.
"Who's the next beast to challenge my axe?!"
