Chapter 12 The Base of the Dragon Slayer
Chapter 12 The Base of the Dragon Slayer
Otto has no intention of wasting his expertise.
However, Micah, upon learning that Otto had chosen swordsmanship, immediately snapped out of his reverie, patted his chest, and promised to find him a suitable swordsmanship instructor.
"There's a semi-retired adventurer in the Dragonbreaker who's skilled in swordsmanship. I'll introduce you to him when we get back. He's also qualified as a guild mentor."
You can train directly in my workshop.
As Micah spoke, he pushed Otto out of the reception room.
However, as Otto walked out the door, his "animal friends" reminded him of Micah and Erin's little tricks.
The eagle saw it; Micah seemed to have handed Erin a small pouch.
The black cat heard the sound of silver Thorns clashing together.
[Based on the information gathered by his companions, the monkey deduced that the pocket was likely a money pouch filled with silver Thorne.]
[The black sheep chuckles and mocks you. Looks like the novice adventurer has been sold off!]
"What's going on?"
After leaving the Adventurers' Guild, Otto immediately exposed Micah and Irene's deal behind his back.
But Micah didn't seem to care much about it, and simply explained slowly.
"It's just asking Eileen to help introduce some promising newcomers."
Personnel like Eileen, who are stationed elsewhere, have little loyalty to the Adventurers' Guild. New adventurers marked as high-quality resources are highly sought after.
With Micah's explanation, Otto gradually understood.
Adventurer parties will not easily accept novice adventurers.
They were either fellow villagers or younger generations from their hometown, or skilled individuals whose abilities they had personally tested in the tavern.
Alternatively, one could bribe the staff at the Adventurers' Guild counter to obtain a list of high-quality resources relevant to novice adventurers, and then approach each of them one by one to test their luck.
Most teams start training their adventurers from the very beginning.
Few adventurer parties will actively recruit lone veterans.
"Lone wolves not only have difficulty coordinating tactics, but it's also hard to tell what the other side has been through."
Micah, as a seasoned adventurer, is very experienced in this area.
Therefore, even though the team was short of members due to the departure of the big guy and his companions, Micah did not easily look for other experienced adventurers to fill the gap. Instead, he looked for suitable novice adventurers in the hall of the Adventurers' Guild.
Time is not a problem for Micah; what matters is the promising future potential and clean background.
At this point, Micah chuckled.
"Honestly, you've got an unexpected bonus."
That money was a reward for Eileen introducing me to new people.
Besides you, there's another newcomer in the group. She's also a priestess of the God of Law and Judgment, and she came to Oaktown with Eileen for training.
Otto was somewhat surprised by these words.
Did Eileen, who seems so meticulous, actually betray her own colleague behind the scenes?
Just as Otto was reflecting on this, Micah had already led him to his forging workshop.
The workshop's exterior structure is made of obsidian and firebricks.
The robust chimney is still covered in sparks.
Above the door hangs a sign made of a battle axe and claw marks.
This logo is also the mark of the Dragon Slayer Blade.
Clearly, Micah used this mark as the face of his workshop.
Otto carefully pushed open the door, and the first thing he encountered was a wave of heat.
The fire in the forging room continued to burn even after Micah left.
Micah simply explained.
"Re-igniting the forging furnace requires a significant amount of materials and time."
If you do the math, it's better to just keep the forge burning.
Micah didn't explain much about the workshop to Oto, but simply led him to the stronghold behind the workshop.
After being transported to the spacious tactical conference room, Otto saw a quaint little courtyard.
The courtyard consists of five rooms, which are clearly the area where adventurers usually live.
Micah then led Otto on a tour.
"Currently, there are two vacant rooms. You can choose whichever one you like to stay in."
Micah pushed open the doors to the two empty rooms.
The facilities inside are complete.
Although it is a bit small, it is still quite suitable as Otto's first base.
"This will do."
Otto put his luggage in one of the empty rooms and settled in.
"So, when can we begin swordsmanship training?"
Having settled on his accommodations, Otto was already looking forward to meeting his swordsmanship instructor.
Micah wasn't too surprised by Otto's reaction.
Novice adventurers are always full of energy.
Micah had already made plans.
"Come with me, you don't need to bring your exquisite iron sword."
After giving Otto a few instructions, Micah led him out of the room.
"The novice priest, just like you, went with another member of the team to join a group to do medium-sized commissions and gain experience."
As for the swordsmanship instructor I mentioned earlier, judging by the timeline, he should be in the archives organizing the ledgers right now.
At this moment, Otto learned of the predicament of the Dragonbreaker Blade squad.
It turns out that during their last adventure, one veteran member died unexpectedly, while another suffered severe injuries and had to retire from the front lines.
It was because of that blow that the big guy left the Dragonbreaker with another companion.
Currently, including Micah, there are only two active adventurers in the team.
Therefore, the two divided the work: the other adventurer was responsible for leading the newcomers and accumulating experience while earning funds through group activities.
Micah was responsible for recruiting trustworthy people from the Adventurers' Guild Hall.
"Group buying is a dangerous activity."
Even adventurer teams that get along well on a regular basis can easily clash.
Therefore, adventurers will not choose to team up unless absolutely necessary.
Micah sighed helplessly as he finished speaking.
Clearly, he also disliked the current state of the Dragon Slayer Blade.
However, now that the Dragon Slayer Blade has received a fresh influx of new blood, it's only a matter of time before they embark on another adventure.
With that in mind, Micah immediately introduced Otto to the sword instructor they were about to meet.
"His name is Havel, and he's considered a veteran of the Dragonbreaker Squad."
Unfortunately, he had an arrow lodged in his knee during a past adventure.
It was because of that injury that Javier was cursed by the primal god and forced to retire.
Today, he is in charge of the blacksmith's business and the operation and logistics of the Dragonbreaker Squad's adventure activities.
They are an indispensable part of our existence.
Micah is a very sentimental person. Even though Javier was no longer able to play, he never thought of kicking his old friend out of the team.
Otto wasn't too surprised by this. After all, even the big guy who left the team, Micah only muttered a few words about it and didn't do anything more to make things difficult for him.
