Chapter 357 - 6: Enjoying This Kind of Thing on a Small Scale is Enough
Reiya tilted her head. "Enchanter Bloodline? Is that a type of Succubus?"
"It’s not quite as simple as just a Succubus..."
Seeing the Silver-haired Princess’s confusion, Westheid caught Luyetan’s eye to get her assent before explaining the history between the Yuanxi Clan and Emperor Qianlu.
The Yuanxi Clan’s Enchanter Bloodline was passed down from the Void Law Holy Spirit. This Holy Spirit was once a follower of Emperor Qianlu, but before that, it had been His enemy.
It wasn’t surprising. One was an Innate Holy Spirit, the other a lowly Enchanter. For the latter to make a name for itself in the Land of Thousand Lakes, it was bound to cross paths with the local Holy Spirit. Emperor Qianlu may have disliked conflict, but as a great being capable of Ascension to godhood, He was certainly no coward at heart.
On His path to godhood, Emperor Qianlu defeated many opponents and took them in as his subordinates... No, to be precise, as his adopted sons and daughters.
That’s how those "father-son matches" go. You lose, you call them "Dad." Nothing more to it.
And it wasn’t just calling him "Dad" in name only. These were real "father-son matches."
Because back then, to better establish a bond with His followers, Emperor Qianlu pulled a few tricks.
He implanted the Enchanter Bloodline into His followers, effectively making them part of Emperor Qianlu’s own bloodline.
Normally, the bloodline descendants of a Celestial God left behind in the Mortal World should be exceptionally noble—like the Royal Family of the Radiant Holy Tree Empire, or the Steel Will Guardians among the Yonglan Knights.
But Emperor Qianlu insisted on taking the path less traveled. Or perhaps, He Himself despised the Enchanter bloodline and, instead of appointing an Enchanter as a ruler, chose an Elf Race to be His representative in the mortal realm.
Not only that, but Emperor Qianlu was also exceptionally cold toward His own descendants, treating them almost like tools. He planted a precept within His own bloodline: those who carry the Enchanter Bloodline, and all their descendants, must ensure the continued existence of the Thousand Laws Royal Court.
"I can’t believe something like that happened."
Reiya’s eyes widened in understanding, but she didn’t seem particularly moved.
’If anything,’ she thought, ’I, a Holy Tree Descendant, have been tortured far worse. This is nothing by comparison.’
"So the Void Law Holy Spirit can be considered a child of Emperor Qianlu, at least in terms of bloodline. We won’t get into the ethics of it. In any case... forcing this restraint and duty on them was a really rotten thing for Emperor Qianlu to do."
Westheid explained, glancing at Luyetan. The latter gritted her teeth, rubbing her pointed ear as she spoke:
"To be honest, I don’t resent having to maintain order for the Thousand Laws Royal Court. The Royal Court is fine, and after all these years, the Yuanshi Territory’s ties to it are deep and complicated. But as long as this bloodline continues to flow, my clan is shackled and collared, generation after generation!"
"And not only that, but this Enchanter blood... Hmph. Besides inheriting some of Emperor Qianlu’s Magic Talent, it’s utterly useless."
"By comparison, I identify more with the Imperial Branch of Prosperity."
Luyetan revealed a bit of her true feelings, then immediately took a deep breath. When she looked at Westheid, her expression had returned to its usual smile.
"So, Westheid, tell me... are you confident you can eradicate this disgusting Enchanter Blood?"
"Yes. And my official verdict is: it can be done."
Westheid said, giving Luyetan a boost of confidence without a moment’s hesitation:
"But it’s not something that can be solved immediately. Since it’s a precept planted by Emperor Qianlu, the only way to remove it is to go to the Royal Court and find the answer there."
"And I happen to know exactly what to do. It’s just that saying it out loud might be... offensive to some beliefs."
Luyetan tilted her head slightly, propping her cheek on her soft, fair hand, and said:
"Do you take me for a believer in Emperor Qianlu? No, no, no. I don’t have a very good impression of that so-called ancestor."
Westheid smiled. "Then I’ll be blunt. The Thousand Laws Ceremony. Only by mastering the Thousand Laws Ceremony can you perform a miracle-like transformation and purge your Enchanter Bloodline."
Even though she had prepared herself, Luyetan was still deeply shaken by Westheid’s words, her expression freezing for a moment.
A few seconds later, however, she smiled while biting her nail and said:
"The Thousand Laws Ceremony? Well, well, well. So that’s it. So that’s the kind of idea you’ve been harboring! Honestly... Westheid, your audacity and greed are far beyond what I imagined. Do you have no sense of reverence at all? If you’re going to covet the Thousand Laws Ceremony, why not just declare war on the Royal Court directly?"
Westheid wagged his finger. "See? Getting impatient again."
"I’m not so tyrannical as to take everything I see by force. This is also the only way to solve your bloodline problem. There’s no other choice. Are you scared? It’s not too late to back out."
"Scared? No, I’m not scared."
Luyetan steepled her fingers under her chin, her gaze growing softer and more captivating, like spring water stirred by a gentle ripple.
"That may be so, but the truth is, you aren’t certain you can win, are you? If you had absolute power, who knows what you’d do. To dare covet the very foundation of the Royal Court, to take a Divine Artifact blessed by a Celestial God for all living beings and claim it for yourself... even if you did manage to gain control of it, you would face the desperate opposition of the entire Royal Court, wouldn’t you?"
Westheid leaned in closer and said:
"That’s why this sort of thing is best enjoyed within a small circle."
"Use the Thousand Laws Ceremony as a tool to benefit the state and help the people. A trivial matter of faith is nothing to be afraid of. As long as the subjects of the Royal Court can live and work in peace, who’s going to care whether the Thousand Laws Ceremony is truly perfect and flawless?"
His words grew more and more frightening. If this speech were to be broadcast on a loop in the Thousand Laws Royal Court, Westheid would instantly become a blasphemer hunted by all.
Fanatical faith in the Divine Ancestor and unwavering adherence to the Law were the foundations of the nation. If either of those two pillars wavered, the Realm of Order would cease to be the Realm of Order. There was no room for compromise.
Luyetan tapped her fingers on the table. After biting off a piece of a small cookie, she slapped the table and declared:
"Alright, I’ve decided. The Yuanshi Territory will help you. Thanks to the stability of the region, I should be able to spare another legion."
"Hm? You plan on joining in too? There’s no need for that. I’ll fulfill my promise. You just need to wait."
Westheid was surprised to hear this. He had been honest with Luyetan out of trust for a friend; he never meant to pull her into this scheme.
But Luyetan didn’t seem to appreciate the sentiment. She leaned over and climbed right onto the table, pushing aside everything on it. Her exquisite, perfect figure was especially alluring wrapped in her elegant dress as she steadily closed the distance to Westheid.
A fire seemed to burn in her enchanting, seductive eyes, which even held the distinct shape of hearts—and that was no exaggeration.
’Hearts shouldn’t be popping up in people’s eyes!’
"What are you talking about, my dear Duke Qinghui? How could I possibly resist something so interesting and insane? You can blame my Enchanter Bloodline. If not for its influence, why would I be so driven to seek out thrills and excitement?"
The instant Luyetan reached out to touch Westheid’s cheek, Reiya grabbed her wrist and said coldly,
"You can talk, but keep your hands to yourself."
The hearts that had lit up in Luyetan’s eyes instantly vanished. She seemed to regain her senses, hopping down from the table and gracefully smoothing out her dress while covering her mouth to hide a giggle.
"Oh my, are you jealous? I had no idea Her Highness Reiya was so easily jealous. I hear the Duke Qinghui has no children to this day. It couldn’t be because someone is..."
Reiya cut her off bluntly.
"I have never committed such a selfish and shameless act. But regardless of anyone else, *you* are not allowed, Succubus."
After listening for so long, Reiya had clearly learned a thing or two. She had accurately grasped her opponent’s weak spot and attacked it, causing Luyetan’s smile to stiffen, her usual elegance and composure gone.
"...Haha. A Succubus. Since Her Highness Reiya calls me a Succubus, then..."
Luyetan licked the corner of her lips and sneered.
