Chapter 418 356: Departure
Chapter 418 356: Departure
This thing that was neither quite a talisman nor not, tumbled up and down, spiraling as it condensed into a small blue-gray mirror, radiating sparkling Dharma Light. One glance was enough to tell it was no common object—it was precisely the treasure that, in Li Yuanjiao's memory, the Li Family had acquired from their Cave Mansion.
'So, this was the old bastard's backup plan.'
How could Chi Buzi fail to recognize it? He stared for a few moments, regretting his own greed for a brief moment—who could have guessed that the Taiyin Moonlight was merely bait released by that old bastard?
Chi Buzi paused, immediately suppressing the greed in his heart, and pondered to himself:
'Who knows what age this ancient monster comes from? No need to rush. If I can con him into revealing some secret... perhaps my opportunity for Core Formation lies within!'
The witchcraft was still embedded in his own Soul, yet Chi Buzi wasn't afraid in the least. Fixing his gaze on that Talisman Qi, he thought:
'Just a spell of witchcraft. When the Perfected Lord emerges in eighty-three years, it'll be dispelled with ease. It's these artifacts of ancient times that are precious. Before seeing the Lord, I must trick this one into my grasp!'
He was sizing it up, when the Water Mansion Immortal Official suddenly grew wary and responded:
"What's it to you? This is my immortal position inheritance, granted by the Immortal Court. You'd best not covet it."
Chi Buzi didn't catch half a word of the whole sentence; only four words echoed in his mind:
'Immortal position inheritance!'
'Taoist Fetus Immortal's opportunity!'
Chi Buzi drew a few heavy breaths, his expression clouded and uncertain, as a thought sprang to mind:
'Is it true or not? The old bastard still thinks there's something called the Immortal Court... If it's true, would Lu Shui ever let me go? The Perfected Lord is ruthless—if the adults find out, what need would there be for the Green Pond Sect? I may not be the only one to die.'
Chi Buzi's thoughts were sharp; in just a brief instant, he had deduced a multitude of possibilities:
'In that case, rather than wait to be killed and robbed, I might as well come up with a reason to flee overseas, and plot for the inheritance at my leisure...'
He touched the corner of his eye, finally noticing his own dire condition, and composed his thoughts:
'Scouted Wangyue Lake... soul searched the Li Family... only for this old bastard to escape by taking advantage...'
All three of his Divine Skills were more or less damaged; to make matters worse, several strands of Power of Moonlight were rampaging within his body—doubtless a result of staring directly at that immortal position.
'It's only a matter of a dozen or so years of recuperation.'
Chi Buzi didn't think much of it. Having encountered a relic of ancient times, his losses now were as light as could be, not to mention that immortal position clearly wasn't some ordinary thing.
"Let's fix these eyes first!"
He brushed his sleeve and, standing on the riverbank, scooped up a mix of mud and water. He rolled out two thumb-sized pellets, opened up his pitch-black eye sockets, and gently pressed them in.
The two clay pellets fit snugly in place of his eyeballs; Chi Buzi closed his eyes and moved them a bit. Pinching a spell gesture, ribbons of colorful light arose; when he opened his eyes again, they were black and white as any normal pair.
'Use these for now! I probably lost my eyes gazing at that immortal position. I'll return to the sect, fetch some blood essence, and mold a good pair.'
With his eyesight restored, the world before him became much clearer, and his thoughts even sharper.
Although this old bastard's overwhelming force in breaking through his Sea of Consciousness was proof enough, Chi Buzi was still skeptical at heart, thinking:
"How could a Taoist Fetus inheritance be so easily gained? Even this wretched immortal position can't be scanned through with Spiritual Sense... Who knows what this really is. If Lu Shui believes it, there'll be no escape for me."
As this thought came, Chi Buzi suddenly remembered something. His face grew stern and he said gravely:
"Old bastard, does the Li Family know of you?!"
The Water Mansion Immortal Official replied lazily:
"I hid in their family for decades without uttering a word. I've already wiped those people's memories."
The Immortal Official spoke lightly, but it was a matter of life and death for himself, so Chi Buzi wasn't content and said in a low voice:
"I'll finish the job! And while I'm at it, reclaim my leaked Divine Ability spell!"
Though Green Pond and Da Li Mountain had an agreement not to perform blood sacrifices in the North Foothills, killing a few people was fair game. As for Divine Ability spell, he naturally meant the blood pearls scattered all over the ground just now.
It wasn't that Chi Buzi coveted those little Spiritual Objects—the blood pearls would disperse in a little while anyway—but he worried someone with ulterior motives might take advantage. Just as he was about to break through to the Great Void, the Immortal Official suddenly blocked him, cursing:
"Still dare to do such heinous deeds!"
He then rattled off a list of offenses, one by one. Hearing this, Chi Buzi could only sigh, retract his steps, and reply coldly:
"What an old relic! We cultivators aren't the same as mortals or low-level cultivators. We possess Divine Skills, yet are still shackled by that so-called morality crafted for the mundane world. Absolutely laughable!"
The Immortal Official let out a cold snort and was about to speak, when Chi Buzi said grimly:
"Old bastard, let me ask you: at the dawning of heaven and earth, when all was a vast blur, was there such a thing as morality, law, or status?"
The Immortal Official was taken aback, and answered:
"There was none..."
Chi Buzi sneered coldly, saying:
"Later, when people were born in the primordial age, those who came first were honored and those later despised; the strong became emperors, the weak their slaves. What's called morality was nothing more than rules made so the honored could control the despised, emperors could enslave their subjects, and the masters could tame their grandchildren."
"So, when the masters died, the grandchildren rose to power, became shrewd, and wanted to maintain this order. Year after year, decade after decade, it became the hierarchy of high and low, propriety and order."
"If you choose to believe in it, it exists; ignore it, and it does not. Morality and law are but fabricated illusions. Now that I'm the honored, I wield Divine Skills, so naturally I set the rules. Why should I submit to the delusions of the dead?!"
The Immortal Official erupted in rage, shouting:
