Chapter 1026: Punished to Kneel
Chapter 1026: Punished to Kneel
As soon as they stepped into the courtyard, they saw Gu Yunjiao sitting under the veranda.Seeing the two come in, her face hardened. "You two didn’t rest at noon. Where did you go?"
The brothers exchanged a look and said in unison, "We just walked around the garden a bit."
Gu Yunjiao let out a sharp little laugh, her gaze landing on You Er’s head. "You two didn’t happen to sneak into the water, did you?"
The two of them shook their heads like rattles.
Gu Yunjiao crooked a finger. "Come here."
The two shuffled over slowly.
Gu Yunjiao stood up and with a reach of her hand yanked off You Er’s hair ribbon. "You still dare lie to me? The ribbon’s soaking wet!"
You Er and Qi Er exchanged a glance. They’d remembered not to get their clothes wet, but they’d completely forgotten about the hair ribbons.
The two stopped talking and obediently knelt down on their own.
Holding the ribbon, Gu Yunjiao was so angry she could hardly breathe. "How many times have I told you, you’re not allowed to go in the water."
"Why just won’t you listen?"
"Are you still feeling unconvinced in your hearts right now?"
"Are you thinking that next time you’ll just take off the ribbons too and wrap your hair up properly so your mother won’t find out?"
Qi Er hurriedly said, "Aunt Gu, we weren’t thinking that. We plan to listen to you from now on."
In that moment just now between life and death, they really had thought that.
As for later on... that was another story.
Gu Yunjiao gave another cold "heh." "Let me tell you, next time even if you come back looking neat from head to toe like you just attended a palace banquet, I still won’t believe you!"
She pulled over You Er’s hand and lifted his sleeve. With her fingernail she scratched his arm, and on the sun-darkened, shiny skin a pale white mark appeared.
Then she scratched twice on Qi Er’s arm and brought out two white marks as well.
Pointing at the marks, Gu Yunjiao said, "See this? This is evidence!"
"Hmph. From now on, you two can think it over yourselves and see if you can still escape my fiery, discerning eyes."
You Er blinked. "Mom, why are there white marks? And what are ’fiery, discerning eyes’?"
Why there would be white marks, Gu Yunjiao actually didn’t know either. Back in elementary school, she’d seen her deskmate scratch out white marks while she couldn’t, and she’d found it very strange.
Her deskmate told her it was because he’d gone swimming at noon.
Her deskmate said that after school his mom would scratch his arm to check if he’d gone swimming in secret, so he went at noon and avoided the sun, and by evening his mom couldn’t tell anymore.
Ever since learning this, Gu Yunjiao had never had a chance to try it out; today it finally came in handy.
She snorted. "Not telling you. There just are, that’s all."
"As for ’fiery, discerning eyes’, I’ll tell you some other day when I have time."
"You two, kneel properly for me."
"Reflect on yourselves. Before it’s time for dinner, you’re not allowed to get up!"
"After you eat dinner, you keep kneeling."
Gu Yunjiao’s principle was that no matter how big the matter, it couldn’t affect the children’s meals. Punishment was punishment; a bit of physical suffering didn’t matter, but you couldn’t ruin their health.
She huffed off in a temper.
Only when Yang Ying saw her walk some distance away did she lower her voice and say to the two children, "When it’s time to eat, I’ll come call you."
"Don’t worry, she’ll cool down in a bit."
You Er looked at Yang Ying pitifully. "Aunt, I’m hungry."
Maybe he’d used up too much energy just now; he already felt hungry.
Qi Er said, "Aunt, I’m hungry too."
Yang Ying glanced outside; Gu Yunjiao’s figure had already gone out the gate of the courtyard. She lowered her voice. "Your mom just now came to bring you snacks."
"The mung bean cakes she made this morning are on the table in the main room."
"Go eat, quick!"
